Rating: ★★★½☆

One of the big things that is around at the moment is the ability to store files on a remote server and then access them wherever you are. Of course, there are many ways to do this on a computer and there are many services that allow you to access your files out there such as MobileMe and such, however, when it comes to mobile devices accessing the files can be much harder. Since the release of the iPad a few months ago, there have been a number of apps released that will allow you to access your files remotely and then edit and work on them on the iPad and now, there is a new app out there. This new app, named Elements – Dropbox Powered Text Editor, allows you to access the files that are stored on your Dropbox account from your iPad and then open and edit them. As far as iPad apps go when it comes to accessing remote files, this is a great idea, but how well does it work?

Although it allows you to access files that are on your Dropbox account, the idea of this app isn’t to let you access any kind of file. It has actually been made just for text files and for you to edit the text files in the app. When you first launch the app, you will notice that the design is pretty basic which is a great thing in this sort of app as you don’t really want a lot of heavy design in the app that will clutter up your screen when you are trying to work. Another thing that you will notice is that it is designed very simply, which is also a great thing as it is easy for most people to figure out and start using almost instantly. elements ipad screenshot

The app has some pretty great features that will really make your life a lot easier if you have to write on a regular basis. Of course, the app does all the things you would expect of it such as allow you to open text files and then edit them, save them and so on but is also has many other features. One of the best features of this app is that it can actually sync the files on your Dropbox account between you devices. This means that if you update a file on the iPad, it will update it on your Dropbox account and then if you access the app on your iPhone, it will also be updated instantly. Another great feature of this app is that it actually allows you to send files via email without even having to leave the app. This is great as it is a real time saver.

Overall, this is a great app if you are looking to access files on your Dropbox account on your iPad and although there is still room for improvement, we think it is one of the best out there at the moment. The app is on sale for just $4.99 in the app store, which we think is a fair price.
