One of the things that Apple has developed with their iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices is the on screen keyboard. This keyboard has a number of features such as auto correction and other things, but a lot of people find these annoying. Also, with the iPhone and iPod Touch devices, this keyboard can be quite fiddly to use and on the iPad, it is much easier and more accurate. This is great for the iPad but in terms of iPad apps, there doesn’t seem to be many that are aimed at word processing. One of the apps that is aimed at this is called iA Writer and the idea of the app is very simple; it is a writing app and only a focused writing app.
When it comes to iA Writer for the iPad, the idea is that it is an app that is made just for writing. The app aims to free you of any distractions that you might see in other apps and allow you to focus just on the writing. It does this by making the screen entirely filled with what you are typing and using the iPads on screen keyboard as a keyboard. There are no distractions in the app and this allows you to concentrate on what you are doing. 
When it comes to the design of the app, it is extremely simple, Because the idea of the app is to basically provide you with a blank canvas for writing, there are very few menu bars or scroll bars or anything like that. When you launch the app, you are simply presented with one page with a menu bar at the top. This means that you can really focus on what you are writing instead of focussing on things like sidebars and adverts like many other apps.
There are some interesting features within the app that bring a lot of functionality to the application. One of the best features of the app is that it doesn’t feature any auto correction. Because the on screen keyboard on the iPad is much more accurate than on the iPhone and iPod Touch, this app actually doesn’t use auto correction so whatever you actually type will be typed onto the screen. This works well on the device and it seems that it is sometimes more accurate without auto correction.
Another fantastic feature of this application is that it has support for Dropbox. This means that you can synchronise all of your documents to and from your Dropbox account right from your iPad, allowing you to work on files remotely. This is a great feature.
Overall, this is a simple (no nonsense) but extremely great application for the iPad. It is great if you do a lot of writing and it is available in the iTunes app store for just $4.99. Get it now from the
