There is no doubting that the iPad has completely revolutionized the way that a lot of people work and enjoy games on mobile devices, but there is also a couple of major drawbacks to the device. One of the problems that people actually face when it comes to the iPad is that they are unable to play flash content on the device. This can be a big problem as there is a lot of flash content available on the internet including many games and advertisements on websites. Until recently, there was no way of viewing the flash content on the device until the SkyFire iPad app came along and made it all possible.

The idea behind the SkyFire application is that it is another web browser for the iPad. It was first made available on the iPhone but following the success, it has been made available for the iPad too. The main idea of the web browser is that it will allow you to be able to view flash content on the device, although it does have a lot of other features as well. skyfire screenshot

When you launch the application for the first time, you will notice that it looks pretty similar to any other web browser out there for the iPad. A lot of people think that it looks quite similar to Firefox with the color scheme and we look at this as an added bonus. The app looks pretty simple then, but it is packed full of features that will make browsing the web on the iPad device much better than it has ever been before.

One of the best features of SkyFire is of course that it allows you to play flash content on the device. It does this by converting the content into a format that the iPad can view and it does this well. The application works with almost all flash media although it will not work with flash games or flash apps. Everything else works fine and the app will let you choose whether or not you would actually like to view the content.

As well as this fantastic feature, the application also allows you to be able to be social on the iPad. There is actually a toolbar at the bottom of the browser that will allow you to share things on social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter. This built in functionality really makes the application appeal to a lot of users and really makes a lot of social things on the iPad a lot simpler. You can also share things you find over a variety of other services including GReader as well as Instapaper and many more.

Overall, this is a fantastic application that really allows you to view the flash content as well as having many other great features. The app is available from the iTunes app store for just $4.99. Get it now from the Skyfire Web Browser for iPad - Skyfire Labs, Inc.

They COULD have just been the “iPad browser that does flash”, but it’s nice that they have some other features to fall back on. Apps like this have to be so good that they become the new default – in this case replacing Safari. Haven’t tried this one myself yet, but looking forward to it. Thanks!

ITS SAD THAT AFTER PAYING THE HIGH PRICE OF THIS DEVICE, PEOPLE STILL HAVE TO BUY A BROWSER THAT SATISFIES THEM. APPLE SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THIS AND STOP THE STUPIDITY OF DECIDING WHAT CONSUMERS WANT OR DONT WANT!

STEVE JOBS(the mighty Apple God!) DECIDES THAT FLASH SUPPORT IS NOT GOOD FOR CONSUMERS, SO THEY DON’T INCLUDE IT IN THE iPAD….AND ALL OTHER DEVICES IN THE MARKET SUPPORT FLASH! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!

SAFARI SHOULD BE SUPPORTING FLASH ALREADY! I HAVE AN iPAD BECAUSE IT WAS GIVEN TO ME AS A GIFT. IT IS A NICE DEVICE……BUT, APPLE NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND GIVE CONSAUMERS WHAT THEY WANT IN THE DEVICE…INSTEAD OF DECIDING WHAT WE WANT. CONSUMERS PAY ENOUGH FOR THIS DEVICES…GTHEY SHOULD HAVE THE BASICS INCLUDED!

IN ADDITION, AN SD CARD SLOT WOULDNT BE BAD EITHER….INSTEAD…WE STILL NEED TO USE A DAMN COMPUTER TO LOAD OUR PICTURES AND VIDEOS INTO THE iPAD!!!! AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE WITHOUT THE DAMN iTUNES! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO PLUG AN SD CARD FROM MY CAMERA STRAIGHT INTO THE iPAD!…..BUT NOOOOOOOO, ALL OF THE APPLE SALES PERSONNEL TELLS YOU THE SAME THING….” THE iPAD WAS NOT BUILT FOR THAT….NO SD SLOT, NO USB SLOT, BLAH BLAH, BLAAAAH!…….I’M THE ONE THAT BUYS IT…THE ONE THAT PAYS FOR IT!, IM THE CONSUMER! PUT WHAT I WANT IN IT! DONT DECIDE FOR ME!

AND TO END MY COMPLAINING………MANY OF THE APPS CLAIM TO BE FREE…….YOU DOWNLOAD THEM, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN A FEW DAYS LATER, YOUR ACCOUNT GETS CHARGED FOR THE APP!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! MOST OF THE APPS ARE CHEAP…..SO MY GUESS IS THAT THE DEVELOPERS DO THAT IN PURPOSE….BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT MOST PEOPLE WON’T BOTHER TO CHECK INTO A $ .99 CENT OR A $1.99 CHARGE. WHAT IF THEY DO THAT TO A MILLION USERS? WELL…THATS GOOD PROFIT FOR THEM…AND APPLE ALLOWS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WELL NOT ME!!! IM NOT DOWNLOADING NOTHING ELSE INTO THE iPAD! IM DEFINITELY SUING SOMEBODY! OVER 20 FREE APPS THAT I DOWNLOADED WHICH CLAIMED TO BE FREE, THEY’VE ALL CHARGED MY ACCOUNT….BUT…..THATS IT! NO MORE!

The description is a little misleading. Sky fire will allow you to play Flash video, gut NOT Flash games or Apps.

you are one angry dude. there is a dongle you can use for an sd card. i’ve never been charged inappropriately (maybe that is user error. I agree people should be able to enable flash but wonder why a device like xoom doesn’t yet support it. turn off the cap lock and breathe deeply.

  • David

That is the same result I obtained. I guess Skyfire only can substitute for flash on Vieos. I hope this is not a problem on most pages. Seems stupid to put such a limit on a tablet that costs this much! Should have bought a Motorola XOOM!

    Like
the millions of other idiots I ran out and purchased and ipad-2. It looks great,
has tons of games and movies to download, but if you main use is internet
surfing DON’T waste your money!!!  With
no flash player this device is nothing more than an over sized ipod.  I just sold my ipad-2 to some sucker that
bought into the hype, good luck. No more frustration when on the web, every
main stream site is supported no problem.
I bought a Samsung galaxy wow!!! This is what the ipad-2 should be. Since then I must have talked about 5 friends out of buying ipads, and the one that
have ipads are looking to other tablets. While they love the Mac, they like
most are disappointed with the ipad-2 and the lack of flash. See you later Apple….
